The operating frequency for DDR4 is 1600 – 3200 MHz, whereas DDR5’s operating frequency can range from 3200 to 6400 MHz. To handle this much speed jump, both the motherboard and the CPU have to be designed accordingly.

5. Channel Requirement
With DDR5, each DIMM (Dual In-line Memory Module) has both sides (left and right) served by an independent channel. So, the DIM modules are higher in capacity than DDR4. Again, this has to be supported by both the CPU and the motherboard.
