ASUS TUF vs Strix | Graphics Card Differences
There are so many options when buying a new graphics card. You might have an idea of the kind of GPU you want such as the GeForce RTX 3080 or the Radeon RX 6700 XT. But choosing the model can be a hard decision.
Asus offers several alternatives to choose from. And among them, Asus TUF and Asus Strix, aka Asus ROG Strix, are both very popular GPUs. While they have some similarities between them, some features make them unique in their own regard.
Here we’ll be using ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3080 OC and the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3080 as a reference and we’ll be comparing both their technical data and benchmark results.
Comparison Between Asus TUF and Asus Strix
Here is the comparison between Asus TUF and Asus ROG Strix graphics cards:
1. GPU
Texture shaders and the number of execution units are included in the GPU core data, and both of these are majorly impactful on the computing power of a graphics card.
GPU | ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3080 OC | ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3080 |
Based on | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 |
GPU Chip | GA102-200-K1-A1 | GA102-200-K1-A1 |

4. Thermal Design
The maximum power consumption of a graphics card is defined by the TDP. The computer’s ventilation and the power supply‘s performance are based on the TDP and need to be optimized.
GPU | ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3080 OC | ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3080 |
TDP | 370 W | 340 W |
TDP (Up) | 450 W | 375 W |
Maximum Tjunction | 93 °C | 93 °C |
PCIe-Power Supply | 3 x 8-Pin | 3 x 8-Pin |
5. Cooler and Fans
The cooler and fans’ number and size comes into play when it comes to the volume of the graphics card. A graphics card that makes a lot of noise is definitely annoying. Bigger fans are better since they spin slower but do the same job as the smaller ones.
GPU | ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3080 OC | ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3080 |
Fan Type | Axial | Axial |
Fan 1 | 3×100 mm | 3×100 mm |
Fan 2 | — | — |
Cooler Type | Air cooling | Air cooling |
Noise when Idle | 0 dB | 0 dB |
Noise when there’s a Load | 42 dB | 42 dB |
Other than the above-mentioned features, there’s connectivity, supported video codecs, dimensions, some extra features (Max resolution, DirectX, etc.), and some additional data which are more or less the same between both graphics cards.
6. Benchmark Test
For the benchmark test, we tested both graphics cards against many different games and high-performance software. And for almost every one of those, the ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3080 OC was superior. For example, against the game, Grand Theft Auto 5 with the resolution of 3840×2160 (2160p), the average FPS (Frame per Second) of ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3080 OC was 90 fps; whereas, ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3080 had an average of 88 fps.
Our Verdict
Both of these GPUs are extremely good but Asus ROG Strix is by far better than Asus TUF. Although TUF provides more longevity, ROG Strix is clearly the winner here when it comes to performance. And for a budget GPU, Asus Strix is definitely one of our favorites. Get yours now and experience the difference!
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Which GPU is more budget-friendly – Asus Strix or TUF?
While the Asus ROG Strix GPU series offers a much better gaming experience, Asus TUF is both budget-friendly and fares well against high-performing GPUs such as ROG Strix. Sure, it’s not as powerful as Strix but its longevity makes it worth going for.
Does Asus Strix and TUF GPUs support Raytracing?
Since raytracing is the new standard for games with 3D graphics, no GPU is considered good unless it supports raytracing. And yes, both of these GPUs support Raytracing. It gives you a prime visual experience while gaming.
